Two iconic varieties, two different seasons
Himsagar and Amrapali are arguably the two most-discussed mango varieties in Bangladeshi households. They are loved for very different reasons, and choosing between them is less about which one is "better" and more about how and when you want to eat your mangoes.
Himsagar — the early-season classic
Himsagar arrives early in the mango calendar and is famous for its smooth, fibreless flesh, sweet aroma, and rich orange-yellow colour. The skin stays thin even at peak ripeness, which is why it is the variety many families remember from childhood.
- Flavour: Sweet, soft, almost fibreless
- Best for: Eating fresh, mango shakes, custards
- Season: Earlier in the harvest window
Amrapali — the late-season favourite
Amrapali matures later in the season and is known for its deep sweetness, attractive colour, and softer flesh. It tends to be smaller in size but packs a noticeably stronger aroma.
- Flavour: Deeply sweet, aromatic, soft flesh
- Best for: Fresh eating, desserts, fruit salads, gifting
- Season: Later in the harvest window
If you want one variety for the early-season anticipation, choose Himsagar. If you want a sweeter, more aromatic finish to the season, choose Amrapali.
Our practical recommendation
Most Shoritu families pre-order both. Start with Himsagar in the early season to enjoy the classic taste, then close the season with Amrapali for its richer sweetness and dessert-friendly flesh.
